We’ve put together a detailed guide for you, where you’ll learn what to pack for the hospital so you can enjoy your first moments with your baby in comfort and peace.
So what should a newborn’s layette include?
- Clothing: 3–5 bodysuits, 3–5 easy-to-fasten items (e.g., rompers, baby jackets, sleepers), 2–3 pairs of socks, 1–2 hats, 1 pair of mittens to prevent scratching.
- Hygiene: about 10 disposable or reusable diapers, wet wipes, baby lotion, diaper rash cream, a soft towel, soap, saline solution, and cotton pads for washing the baby’s eyes and face.
- Accessories: a blanket, a car seat, a pacifier, a bottle, and formula.
- Other: a small bowl and water for washing the baby, clothes for leaving the hospital (depending on the weather).
Putting together a hospital bag is an important part of preparing for the baby’s arrival. Remember to put together the layette calmly and well in advance (ideally around 35–36 weeks of pregnancy). And when the time comes, grab your bag and head out. Good luck!
