On April 10, 2024, the long-awaited program for medical support of in vitro fertilization and infertility treatment was announced.
A team of 14 experts worked on the program, and its main provisions were announced during a press conference held by Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna. The health minister also presented the guidelines that had been developed, including the following:
- The in vitro program will run from June 1, 2024, to December 31, 2028. The total amount allocated from the state budget for its implementation is 2.5 billion PLN, or 500 million PLN per year.
- Couples seeking to conceive through in vitro fertilization are entitled to six individual assisted reproduction procedures, in various forms.
- For the first time, the program safeguards the fertility of patients with cancer, a condition that can reduce their chances of parenthood or even eliminate them entirely. This program provides virtually full funding for these medical procedures—for both women and men.
