There was certainly no shortage of purple at the event organized by the Kraków City Council to mark World Prematurity Day.

After all, purple is the color of tenderness, care, and hope. It is also a symbol of premature babies, who demonstrate their extraordinary strength from the very first days of their lives. This color filled the space, but above all, it filled the hearts of the participants at the OliEdu Foundation event, who together demonstrated how important it is to support the youngest patients and their families.

The celebrations were attended by parents of premature babies, doctors, teachers, and special guests—children from Kraków’s preschools. The youngest children enthusiastically shared how they celebrate World Prematurity Day as part of the #fioletowelove educational and health campaign for premature babies. Their presence served as a beautiful reminder of just how important education and social awareness are from the earliest years.

The event took place under the honorary patronage of Jakub Kosek, Chairman of the Kraków City Council, and was hosted by Meloradio reporter Karolina Putlak, who gave the gathering a warm, touching tone.

Shared Care – Strength in Unity

A huge thank you goes to the representatives of Kraków’s medical facilities, who care for premature babies and their families every day.

The “Ujastek” Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital was represented by:

  • Renata Pietruszka – Director of the Hospital and Outpatient Care
  • Dr. Beata Rzepecka-Węglarz – Head of the Neonatology Department

It is at this hospital that the most babies are born in Małopolska, and—according to statistics—it ranks second in Poland in terms of the number of births. The immense amount of work, care, and heart put into caring for the youngest children inspires admiration and gratitude.

The Stefan Żeromski Specialist Hospital was also represented, and this honor was carried out with distinction by:

  • Dr. Małgorzata Woś – Head of the Ophthalmology Department with a Pediatric Subdivision

Thanks to excellent ophthalmological care, premature babies from Małopolska can be diagnosed and treated locally, without having to travel to distant medical centers. Meanwhile, the Stefan Żeromski Specialist Hospital has been participating in #fioletowelove from the very beginning!

The heart of the event—people of good will

The President of the OliEdu Foundation, Ewa Daros, expressed her deep gratitude to everyone for supporting the campaign and to the volunteers from the Kraków Academy of Volunteers in Action, who actively helped during the event at the Kraków City Council.

Tomasz Daros, a Kraków City Council member, spoke about the value of the #fioletowelove initiative, emphasizing that the campaign, which began locally, now extends to hospitals and educational institutions in every province in Poland. This is an example of how a single idea—rooted in empathy and the desire of parents of premature babies to help—can change the reality for thousands of families with prematurely born children.

Why is supporting premature babies so important?

Premature babies face more challenges from the very start than their peers. They require specialized care, expensive equipment, the intervention of doctors from many specialties, and education and support for their parents. The more aware and engaged society is, the greater the chance that every such child will receive the help they deserve.

For this reason, events like this one—full of warmth, solidarity, and purple energy—are of immense importance. They show that no one is alone on this journey.
